Things you might not know about your senses

The five popular senses (or 'outward wits' as they were once known) are what we'd now call exteroceptive... sensing things that are outside of ourselves. 

Interestingly the 'inward wits' described by medieval authors such as Chaucer, Hawes and Shakespeare were common sense, fantasy, imagination, estimation and memory. As you'll see below, that's not quite how we see it now!
